Home Buying Process-- Step 4

Congratulations! You have purchased your new home. You have moved in and now you are enjoying your new home. Your housewarming party was a blast and your friends love your new home. Owning a home is fun and exciting. There are 3.3 things to remember when you are living in your own home:

1. Remember Regular Maintenance
Don't forget to change your air filters every 3-4 months. Occasionally, you will want to check your roof and gutters for nail-pops and other damages. It is important to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors, clean your gutters (if applicable), and reinspect for termites annually. Every year or so it is also important to check the caulking around your kitchen and bathrooms to make sure that they are not in need of repair.

2. Be a Good Neighbor
Keeping your home in good repair is a great first step in being a good neighbor. Landscaping and keeping your yard clean are also great steps to making your neighborhood a nicer place. Remember that you and your neighbors are dependent upon each other to make your neighborhood a better place to live. The better a place your neighborhood is to live, the more money you will make when you sell your home. You could call that the Golden Rule.

3. Get Involved in Your Community
Being a part of making your community a better place to live is vitally important. In a time where there is so little stability and great transition, it is more important than ever to be a part of your community. Getting plugged in to your neighborhood community organization is easier in some neighborhoods than others, but it is important to be involved in your community. If there isn't a neighborhood association, get plugged into your Chamber of Commerce or volunteer at a local school.
